‘Finances are much better, perhaps thanks to the Mamma Mia! effect’MAMMA Mia! The Picture House in Campbeltown has had a good year and part of that was thanks to feel-good movie based on Abba’s hit songs. Chairwoman of the community run cinema, Jane Mayo said: ‘Finances are much better, perhaps thanks to the Mamma Mia! effect but as always our survival depends on the support of members. ‘The number of people who are members of the cinema keeps on growing slowly but surely and we’d all urge everyone to renew if their membership has lapsed, or get signed up if you are not a member. There are forms available at the cinema,’ And Jane added: ‘Three firms have renewed their business sponsorship for a second year: Stewart Balfour and Sutherland, MacLeod Construction Limited and Archibald Smith Electrical Engineers Ltd. They join McKinven and Colville and Neil Kennedy who became sponsors during the latter part of last year. The Wee Pictures is extremely grateful for their support.’ The other big hit for The Picture House has been on the computer screen, the cinema’s webpage ( www.weepictures.co.uk ) continues to be a great success with well over 5,000 hits a month. ‘Which represents at least one hit from half the population of Kintyre,’ said Jane.
