Extended News
The Picture House is running a "Help Refurbish Your Community Cinema" raffle this year and are appealing to everyone to participate. Tickets will be available in the cinema and at other locations within the Campbeltown area. We will also be selling raffle tickets at the RNLI Day in June as well as at the field during the Kintyre Music Festival in August (weather permitting). The 1st Prize is £300, with 2nd and 3rd prizes of £100 and £50. Please support your community cinema!
We celebrate our Centenary on 26 May, 2013 and it is the Board’s intention to commission a feasibility study and then, with grant aid from the Heritage Lottery Fund, Historic Scotland and other funders, upgrade and refurbish The Picture House in time for the 100 years birthday.
The money raised from the raffle will enable us to launch “The Centenary Project” and pay professional fees for a Conservation Management Plan, a necessary first step in our project.
During the winter of 2006/7 the building was re-roofed which has made a big difference but there is still a lot to do to update the building and bring the facilities into the 21st Century. Last year Historic Scotland gave the building a prestigious “A” listing which denotes historical significance, and together with the Burnet Building this means that there are two “A” Listed buildings next door to each other in our small town.
If successful, this refurbishment will make your community cinema a venue you will be proud to support and visit.
UPDATE
As there was no RNLI Day this year (it's every 2 years) tickets will be on sale at the Agricultural Show instead.
